ISCCR 6: Dorking revisited

The International Study Conferences on Classification Research, organized by the International Federation for Information and Documentation (FID), are an important series of events in the history of the knowledge organization field. The first of them was famously held in Dorking, some 15 km south of London, England, in 1957.

The Sixth, last one on Knowledge organization for information retrieval was held forty years later, 16 to 18 June 1997 again in London, and was an occasion to celebrate the anniversary in the collection of reprints From classification to "knowledge organization": Dorking revisited or past is prelude edited by Alan Gilchrist (FID, The Hague 1997). Some attenders met again in London seven years later for the 8th International ISKO Conference.

The following pictures from the 1997 event, which were distributed to the conference attenders, are published here as a document showing many important researchers in KO. Information was collected thanks to Vanda Broughton, Victoria Frâncu, Birger Hjørland and Aida Slavic. Readers are much welcome to contribute further details at segreteria@iskoi.org!
